3. General and mandatory information

Data privacy

The operators of this site take the protection of your personal data very seriously. We treat your personal data confidentially and in accordance with the legal data protection regulations and this data protection declaration. When you use this website, certain personal data is collected. Personal information is information that can be used to identify you personally. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect and how we use it. It also explains how and for what purpose we do this. Please note that data transmission over the Internet (e.g. when communicating by e-mail) may not be secure. It is not possible to completely protect data from access by third parties.

Note on the responsible body

The data controller of this website is Prof. Dr. Mathias Klier Helmholtzstraße 22 89081 Ulm Phone: +49 (0) 7 31/50-3 23 01 E-Mail: mawi.iba(at)uni-ulm.de The controller is the natural or legal person who alone or jointly with others determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data (e.g. names, e-mail addresses, etc.).

Storage period

Unless a more specific retention period is specified in this Privacy Policy, we will retain your personal information until the purpose for which it was collected no longer applies. If you make a justified request for deletion or revoke your consent to data processing, your data will be deleted unless we have other legally permissible reasons for storing your personal data (e.g. tax or commercial retention periods); in the latter case, the data will be deleted when these reasons cease to apply.

Note on data transfer to the USA and other third countries

Among other things, we use tools provided by companies based in the US or other third countries that may not have data protection laws. When these tools are active, your personal data may be transferred to and processed in these third countries. Please be aware that these countries do not provide a level of data protection comparable to that in the EU. For example, US companies are required to share personal information with security authorities without you being able to take legal action. It is therefore possible that US authorities (e.g. intelligence services) may process, analyse and permanently store your data located on US servers for surveillance purposes. We have no control over these processing activities.

Withdrawing your consent to data processing

Many data processing activities require your explicit consent. You may revoke your consent at any time. The lawfulness of the data processing carried out until the revocation remains unaffected by the revocation.

Right to object to data collection in specific cases and to direct marketing (Art. 21 GDPR)

IF THE DATA PROCESSING IS BASED ON ART. 6 ABS. 1 LIT. E OR F OF THE DSGVO, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT AT ANY TIME TO OBJECT TO THE PROCESSING OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA FOR REASONS RELATING TO YOUR PARTICULAR SITUATION; THIS ALSO APPLIES TO PROFILING BASED ON THESE PROVISIONS. THE LEGAL BASIS ON WHICH THE PROCESSING IS BASED IS SET OUT IN THIS PRIVACY POLICY. IF YOU OBJECT, WE WILL NO LONGER PROCESS YOUR PERSONAL DATA UNLESS WE CAN DEMONSTRATE COMPELLING LEGITIMATE GROUNDS FOR THE PROCESSING WHICH OVERRIDE YOUR INTERESTS, RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS, OR THE PROCESSING IS FOR THE PURPOSE OF ESTABLISHING, EXERCISING OR DEFENDING LEGAL CLAIMS (OBJECTION UNDER ARTICLE 21(1) OF THE DSGVO). IF YOUR PERSONAL DATA IS PROCESSED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DIRECT MARKETING, YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO OBJECT AT ANY TIME TO THE PROCESSING OF PERSONAL DATA CONCERNING YOU FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUCH MARKETING, INCLUDING THE CREATION OF PROFILES IN RELATION TO SUCH DIRECT MARKETING. IF YOU OBJECT, YOUR PERSONAL DATA WILL NO LONGER BE USED FOR DIRECT MARKETING PURPOSES (OBJECTION PURSUANT TO ART. 21 PARA. 2 DSGVO).

Right of appeal to the competent supervisory authority

In the event of a breach of the GDPR, data subjects have the right to appeal to a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of their habitual residence, place of work or the place where the alleged breach took place. The right of appeal is without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy.

Right to data portability

You have the right to have the data that we process automatically on the basis of your consent or in fulfilment of a contract, provided to you or to a third party in a common, machine-readable format. If you request the data to be transferred directly to another controller, this will only be done to the extent that it is technically feasible.

SSL or TLS encryption

For security reasons and to protect the transmission of confidential content, such as orders or enquiries that you send to us as the site operator, this site uses SSL or TLS encryption. You can recognise an encrypted connection by the fact that the address bar of your browser changes from “http://” to “https://” and by the lock symbol in your browser bar. When SSL or TLS encryption is enabled, the information you send to us cannot be read by third parties.

Information, deletion and correction

In accordance with applicable law, you have the right at any time to obtain information free of charge about the personal data stored about you, its origin and recipients, the purpose of data processing and, where applicable, the right to correct or delete such data. You can contact us at any time for this purpose and for any other questions on the subject of personal data.

Right to restrict processing

You have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data. You can contact us at any time for this purpose. The right to restrict processing exists in the following cases:
  • If you dispute the accuracy of your personal information held by us, we will normally need time to investigate. For the duration of the review, you have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal data.
  • If your personal data has been/is being processed unlawfully, you may request that the processing be restricted instead of erased.
  • If we no longer need your personal information, but you need it to exercise, defend or enforce legal claims, you have the right to request that we restrict the processing of your personal information instead of deleting it.
  • If you raise an objection in accordance with Art. 21 (1) DSGVO, a balancing of your and our interests must be carried out. As long as it has not been determined whose interests prevail, you have the right to request the restriction of the processing of your personal data.
If you have restricted the processing of your personal data, such data may be processed – apart from storage – only with your consent or for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest of the European Union or a Member State.

4. Data collection on this website

Cookies

Our web pages use “cookies”. Cookies are small text files that do not damage your terminal device. They are stored on your terminal either temporarily for the duration of a session (session cookies) or permanently (permanent cookies). Session cookies are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Persistent cookies remain stored on your device until you delete them or your web browser automatically deletes them. In some cases, cookies from third parties may also be stored on your device when you visit our site (third party cookies). These enable us or you to use certain services of the third party (e.g. cookies for processing payment services). Cookies have different functions. Many cookies are technically necessary, as certain website features would not work without them (e.g. the shopping cart function or the display of videos). Other cookies are used to evaluate user behaviour or to display advertisements. Cookies that are necessary to carry out the electronic communication process (necessary cookies) or to provide certain functions that you have requested (functional cookies, e.g. for the shopping basket function) or to optimise the website (e.g. cookies for measuring the web audience) are used on the basis of Art. 6 (1) lit. f DSGVO, unless another legal basis is specified. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the storage of cookies for the technically faultless and optimised provision of its services. If consent to the storage of cookies has been requested, the storage of the cookies in question is based exclusively on this consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO); consent can be revoked at any time. You can set your browser to inform you before cookies are set, to allow cookies only in specific cases, to prevent the acceptance of cookies in certain cases or generally, and to automatically delete cookies when you close your browser. If you disable cookies, the functionality of this website may be limited. Where cookies are used by third parties or for analysis purposes, we will inform you separately in this privacy policy and ask for your consent where necessary.

Server log files

The provider of these pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to us. These are
  • Browser type and version
  • Operating system used
  • Referrer URL
  • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of the server request
  • IP address
This data will not be merged with other data sources. The collection of this data is based on Art. 6 par. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the technically correct presentation and optimisation of its website – for this purpose the server log files must be collected.

Contact form

If you send us an enquiry via the contact form, we will store your details from the enquiry form, including the contact details you provide there, for the purposes of processing the enquiry and in the event of any follow-up questions. We will not share this information without your consent. The processing of these data is based on Art. 6 (1) lit. b DSGVO, if your inquiry is related to the execution of a contract or is necessary for the implementation of pre-contractual measures. In all other cases, the processing is based on our legitimate interest in the effective handling of enquiries addressed to us (Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO) or on your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) DSGVO), if this has been requested. The data you enter in the contact form will remain with us until you ask us to delete it, until you revoke your consent to storage or until the purpose for which the data was stored no longer applies (e.g. after we have completed processing your enquiry). Mandatory legal provisions – in particular retention periods – remain unaffected.

Request by e-mail, telephone or fax

If you contact us by email, telephone or fax, we will store and process your enquiry, including any resulting personal data (name, enquiry), for the purpose of dealing with your enquiry. We will not disclose this information without your consent. The data you send us in the context of contact enquiries will remain with us until you ask us to delete it, until you revoke your consent to storage or until the purpose for which the data was stored no longer applies (e.g. after your enquiry has been processed). This is without prejudice to any mandatory legal requirements, in particular statutory retention periods.

5. Analysis tools and advertising

WP Statistics

This website uses the WP Statistics analysis tool to statistically evaluate visitor access. Provider is Veronalabs, ARENCO Tower, 27th Floor, Dubai Media City, Dubai, Dubai 23816, UAE (https://veronalabs.com). WP Statistics allows us to analyse the use of our website. WP Statistics collects log files (IP address, referrer, browser used, user origin, search engine used) and actions taken by website visitors on the site (e.g. clicks and views). The data collected by WP Statistics is only stored on our own server. The use of this analysis tool is based on Art. 6 par. 1 lit. f DSGVO. We have a legitimate interest in the anonymous analysis of user behaviour in order to optimise both our website and our advertising. If a corresponding consent has been requested (e.g. consent for the storage of cookies), the processing is carried out exclusively on the basis of Art. 6 par. 1 lit. a DSGVO; the consent can be revoked at any time.

IP anonymisation

We use WP Statistics with anonymised IP. Your IP address is shortened so that it can no longer be directly assigned to you.

6. Plugins and tools

YouTube mit erweitertem Datenschutz

This site embeds videos from YouTube. It is operated by Google Ireland Limited (“Google”), Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. We use YouTube in an extended privacy mode. According to YouTube, this mode means that YouTube does not store any information about visitors to this website until they watch the video. However, the extended privacy mode does not necessarily prevent the transfer of data to YouTube partners. For example, whether or not you watch a video, YouTube connects to the Google DoubleClick network. When you start a YouTube video on this site, a connection is made to the YouTube servers. This tells the YouTube server which of our pages you have visited. If you are logged in to your YouTube account, you allow YouTube to associate your browsing behaviour directly with your personal profile. You can prevent this by logging out of your YouTube account. In addition, YouTube may place various cookies on your device or use similar recognition technologies (e.g., device fingerprinting) after you view a video. This allows YouTube to obtain information about visitors to this website. This information is used, among other things, to compile video statistics, improve the user experience and prevent fraud. Once a YouTube video starts, it may trigger further data processing over which we have no control. YouTube is used in the interest of an attractive presentation of our online offerings. This constitutes a legitimate interest within the meaning of Art. 6 par. 1 lit. f DSGVO. Insofar as a corresponding consent has been requested, the processing takes place exclusively on the basis of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO; the consent can be revoked at any time. For more information about privacy at YouTube, please see their privacy policy at: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de.

Google Web Fonts

This website uses web fonts provided by Google to ensure a consistent display of fonts. When you request a page, your browser loads the necessary web fonts into its cache in order to display text and fonts correctly. This requires your browser to connect to Google’s servers. This tells Google that your IP address was used to access this website. The use of Google Web Fonts is based on Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO. The website operator has a legitimate interest in the uniform presentation of the font on its website. If a corresponding consent has been requested (e.g. consent for the storage of cookies), the processing is based exclusively on Art. 6 par. 1 lit. a DSGVO; the consent can be revoked at any time. If your browser does not support web fonts, your computer’s default font will be used. You can find more information about Google Web Fonts at https://developers.google.com/fonts/faq und in der Datenschutzerklärung von Google: https://policies.google.com/privacy?hl=de.

Font Awesome

This site uses Font Awesome to display fonts and icons in a consistent manner. It is provided by Fonticons, Inc, 6 Porter Road Apartment 3R, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. When you view a page, your browser caches the fonts it needs to display text, fonts and symbols correctly. This requires your browser to connect to the Font Awesome servers. This allows Font Awesome to know that your IP address was used to access this website. The use of Font Awesome is based on Art. 6 par. 1 lit. f DSGVO. We have a legitimate interest in the consistent presentation of fonts on our website. If a corresponding consent is requested (e.g. consent for the storage of cookies), the processing takes place exclusively on the basis of Art. 6 par. 1 lit. a DSGVO; the consent can be revoked at any time. If your browser does not support Font Awesome, your computer will use a standard font. You can find more information about Font Awesome and Font Awesome’s privacy policy here: https://fontawesome.com/privacy.
